Steinway & SonsType 138
This imposing Steinway & Sons concert piano of 138 cm high was built in 1898. In the middle of the 'Golden Era' of piano building.
This masterpiece has been well cared for by the previous owners and was partially restored in the 1980's. Among other things, the double choir bass strings and hammerheads have been renewed. This is very neatly done. Original Steinway parts have been used so that the character has been preserved. The sound is deep, full and impressively rich in tone. The treble is also characteristic of Steinway. The original soundboard is in pristine condition. That's how we like to see them!
Despite the previous restoration, we have largely - again - restored the piano so that it can last for generations to come. The restoration consisted of:
- Renew bass strings
- Renew steel strings with the correct type of steel strings at the time (Paulello 0 and/or 1)
- Replaced all tuning pins
- Refelting Hammerheads
- Restoration keyboard entry and ivory
- Replaced felt, leather, input sheet (Steinway original felt and sheet)
- Restoration pedal system
- Restoration action
- Polishing (French polish) of the cabinetwork and polishing brass/steel hinges and fittings
You buy this beautiful instrument for life!
